### Encoding Details
I don't know why I have this recent obsession with encoding such awful BDs... In any case, this source had massive banding and noise issues. I tried to somehow fix everything without nuking too many details, but it really called for creating manual masks, which went beyond the effort I was willing to put into this movie.
To be exact, this was the pipeline:
rescale, denoise, deband, deband, regrain (noise)
The base source was particularly noisy, and I wasn't sure how much of it was actually noise added by the studio versus noise resulting from compression, so I added a certain amount of noise regardless, partly because it was needed to cover up the remaining banding.
Some details have been lost, and there isn’t much we can do about it (apart from manual masking)

As for the comp, I did look at several of the available encode, but they are all worse than the BD itself, so I haven’t included them, with the exception of the old "seadex" best.
### EDIT:
Thanks to everyone who pointed out the limited vs. full range issue. We discussed this a lot on the [JET Discord server](https://discord.com/channels/1168547111139283026/1168591112160690227/1504416594372333589). Looking at the evidence, we concluded that even though the crushed blacks and blown-out whites look harsh, it's actually an intentional artistic choice by the studio.
It is true that a few specific scenes go out of bounds (WTW/BTB) and technically need fixing. But doing that is really complicated. It requires fixing the video scene-by-scene using a very specific method we haven't quite figured out yet.
Because of this, the safest option is to leave the original range alone and just use a standard hard clip (which is what I did for this release). Changing the gamma for the whole movie would just ruin the director's intended look.
Note: I know some people won't agree with leaving it like this. But until we find a safe, perfect way to fix just those broken scenes without ruining the rest, it's better not to mess with the levels.
